Players of Maryland State Lottery games must be 18 years or older to buy or redeem tickets, which can be purchased at retailers throughout the state.

In the 2009 fiscal year 60.3% ($1,023,,914,772) of lottery sales was returned to players in the form of prizes, while 29% ($493,206,260) from lottery sales was transferred to the state's General Fund, which supports education, public health and more.

Prizes of less than $600 can be redeemed at any Maryland State Lottery retailer, at lottery offices in Baltimore, Montgomery Park and Lanham, the head office in Baton Rouge, or by mailing the ticket, signed and addressed on the back. Prizes of more than $600 can be claimed by mail, or at any of the lottery offices. Players who win larger prize amounts are encouraged to claim their winnings at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore, at Montgomery Park.

Maryland State Lottery advise that as soon as possible after purchasing your ticket you should sign the back of the ticket, as if tickets are unsigned anyone in possession of a winning ticket may file a claim.

Winners have 182 days after the date of the draw in which to make their prize claim.

Prizes are not exempt from Federal tax, and by law, for prizes more than $5,000 Maryland State Lottery must withhold 25% for Federal Income taxes. Additionally, for prizes over $5,000, 9.25% State Tax is withheld for residents, 7.5% for non-Maryland residents.
