Tickets for Florida Lottery games are available from more than 13,000 retail outlets throughout the state, and can be purchased by adults over the age of 18.
For the last 6 years running, Florida Lottery has contributed $1 billion into the Florida education system, from pre-Kindergarten up to community colleges and state universities. This from a total, in recent years, of almost $4 billion in sales of lottery games run by Florida Lottery.
Prizes of $599.99 or are redeemable at any Florida Lottery retailer. Prizes from $600 to $250,000, and Powerball prizes of up to $1 million, must be redeemed or at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee. Prizes of $250,000 or more, with the exception of Powerball prizes ranging up to $1 million, must be claimed at any Florida Lottery district office, located at Tallahassee, Pensecola, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach and Miami, or at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee. Lottery tickets for all prizes can also be mailed to Lottery headquarters for redemption, however, the risk of mailing tickets remains with the player. If making a claim by mail it is recommended that winners photocopy both the claim form and the front and back of the ticket, and retain for their records.
Winners have 180 days after the date of the draw in which to make their prize claim.
Prizes are not exempt from Federal tax, and by law, for prizes more than $5,000 Florida Lottery must withhold 25% to 28% for Federal Income taxes. Florida Lottery must notify the Internal Revenue Service of prize winnings of $600 or more.
