Under Arizona law, you must be 21 years or older to buy or redeem lottery tickets.
As soon as possible after purchasing your ticket you should on the back of the ticket sign your name and write your address, as if tickets are unsigned anyone in possession of a winning ticket may file a claim. On wins above $5,000 taxes are withheld on winnings. For Arizona residents or resident aliens that's 25% for federal and 5% state income taxes; for non‐resident aliens, the withholding tax is 30% federal and 6% state.
Arizona lottery retailers can redeem prizes up to $100, and may, at their own discretion, pay prizes up to $599. Another option for prizes under $600 is to mail winning tickets in to the Arizona Lottery Office - and be sure to complete your contact details on the back of the ticket, and make a copy of the ticket for your records. Winners of prizes over $600 need to complete a claim form, and mail the form and ticket into the Arizona Lottery Office. Checks can take up to 4 weeks to be processed. If you're lucky enough to have won one of the jackpot prizes, you have 60 days to decide whether to take the prize as a lump sum or annuity. Typically, the lump sum prize would be approximately half the amount of the announced jackpot, less taxes. If jackpot winners don't let Arizona Lottery know their decision within the 60 days, the prize will be paid as an annuity.
Since 1981 the Arizona Lottery has generated more than $2 billion for the state of Arizona, flowing back into the community into such programs as: K-12 and higher education, public health, welfare and safety, natural resources and general government, non-profit organizations, local, regional or state parks, outdoor recreation, environmental education, open space and historic preservation projects, Problem Gambling Hotline, health education system, teenage pregnancy prevention, disease control research, and more.
