Accidental Millionaire
A 70 year old man from Louisiana is $1 million richer after an accidental Powerball win.
Robert Thibodaux Senior purchases two Powerball tickets every Saturday – same tickets every week. But this week, the clerk accidentally added the Power Play option to both of his tickets.
This simple $2 mistake ended up making Robert an instant millionaire.
When you add the $1 Power Play option to your regular Powerball ticket multiplies cash prizes by either: 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x – the multiplier factor is randomly selected before the start of each prize draw.
So, because Thibodaux matched five numbers and he had the Power Play option and in this particular draw the multiplier was 5x the winning amount, he won $1 million instead of just $200,000. This was all thanks to the clerk adding the Power Play option by accident.
"Really, you look at it...I'm a lucky person...I won a lot of money. But, you know what? The lady who sold me the tickets, for a dollar more, is a big part of this. A big part of me becoming a millionaire was because that cashier pressed Power Play."
The Powerball numbers for Saturday 12th November were 4, 35, 36, 51 and 56 with the Powerball 8 and Power Play of 5.
